Really bad class rank

Greetings! I submitted my common application to fordham and nyu yesterday. I truly despise the waiting game and I am currently very worried as to how much weight a bad class rank would hold (like upper 75% by quartile). I feel that it’s due to my school’s focus with academic rigor that students like me who have tried to do extracurriculars were ultimately not given the circumstances to do so without their grades being affected. Should I send an email or something with an explanation or would nyu let it slide if my gpa and act were fine?

Schools look at all components of an application. There’s no such thing as “let(ting) it slide”. If you have extremely strong ECs, that would be a strength of your application while the class rank would be a weakness.

The reality is that the main purpose of high school is to learn, which is why course rigor and grades are the top components of an application, along with standardized testing. A letter would be a bad idea, IMHO, especially if the intent is to try to justify lower grades/ranking due to time spent on ECs, casting your “school’s focus with academic rigor“ as a bad thing.

No. There is no way you can phrase this without sounding like you are whining or making excuses.

On’y on College Confidential (and Reddit’s A2C) would someone disingenuously call this rank “bad.”

I see, thank you!

Will just hope for the best, thank you!
