I tried to see if there was an article about this on the main cc site but I couldn't find one. Here is the question: Can a student use the same teacher letter of recommendation for each school to which the student applies? Does the teacher use the same letter and them print it for the, say, 8 schools to which the student applies?

That's how it's usually done.

The way my kids did it was, end of Junior year, ask the teachers who would best serve you, if they would write your rec. letters (2 teachers, usually). The teachers will write a pretty standard letter, and hopefully add in special information regarding why you might be a good candidate/fit for a particular school.

When you start applying to schools in Senior year, you should give each teacher addressed and stamped envelopes, with your name pencilled in on the face or inside flap. This way, a teacher who may be writing for 20 students finds it easier, plus, if the teacher is disorganized, you have a little less to worry about.

Make sure to track your app. status online. My S had to ask his teacher to send another letter to one of his schools that apparently never received the first letter.
