Really Bugging Out...

No one has a clue at my school about the National achievement scholarship prgogram because this is the first time in about ten years that my school has had a student qualify for at least outstanding participant.

Please put memout of my misery...can you tell me if these scores will be recognized for anything....( all testers are afrcan american)

Texas: 202, 198 ,185 , 183

Sorry bro, cut was 215.

I thought 215 was the National Merit cutoff? I'm almost positive National Achievement cutoffs are different.

Yes, National Achievement has a different cutoff. You might do a search - I think last year there was some discussion of what the cutoff scores were (IIRC, they were less than 200). 202 and 198 should make it, possibly 185 and 183.

I scored a 184 and I haven't received any notification of my status. Should I be worried?

No, the notification for Achievement goes out a bit later than for Semifinalist - late September, I believe.

The cutoff for Georgia was 190, so I can only assume Texas is higher. However the scores in the 180's are I believe sent to colleges, something along the same line as "commended," but that is not the word they used. You can call National Achievement, # is on the collegeboard website, give them your name and school, and they will tell you what level you are.

My daughter was "commended" in California with 183. Nothing official yet but her principal told me in the carpool lane last spring...I think it's a first for her school where there are maybe three African American seniors.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm probably not a semi-finalist, but I do live in a low cut off state: Nevada.
