Really confused about AP credits...help?

Ok..so I looked at the AP credits page for UCLA here AP Credit - College of Letters and Science - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions.

And, for example, I got a 3 on my AP English Language test so in the Req's met section to the right it says EW.
So, does that mean that I do not need to take an Entry Level Writing class because I passed my AP Test?
And does a 5 on AP US History mean my AH requirement is done and I don't need to take another class in this subject area?

I thought it did but then near the top of the page it says "AP credit does not satisfy General Education requirements."

So does this mean I don't need an EW class or I do? I have 6 other AP tests I passed so I am hoping these get rid of some of my other class requirements but at the same time it says on the page that it does not satisfy the requirements. So does AP Credit only count for units? or does it satisfy some class requirements?

I feel dumb asking this question, but I am confused and wanna know before orientation so I can get an idea of what classes I need to take before I get there. Thanks.

AP tests can satisfy certain requirements, for example there is a foreign language requirement, a quantitative reasoning requirement, american history and institutions, entry level writing and writing 1 and 2 (with ap english u can get out of writing 1 but not writing 2) these are university requirements but not GE. The GE classes are 10 classes from various categorys such as Literary Culture and Scientific Inquiry, AP classes can’t get you out of taking these classes. In some cases AP classes will get you the course equivalent for other courses as mentioned on that page.

You can also go to your Degree Progress Report (DPR) in URSA and there it will tell you for sure if you passed out of EW and American Institutions which it appears you did. It will tell you a lot of INFO such as how many units from AP classes you are going into UCLA with, GE requirements and the requirements for your major. You also will go over all this at Orientation.

I just wanted to clarify on what Jillulu said:

Is there still a Writing II requirement? I see on the College of L&S’s general education requirements that effective Fall 2009, the requirement has been discontinued for current students. That also includes incoming freshman too, doesn’t it?

Refer to link: http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/GE/GE-LSFr09-10.pdf

GE Seminar was suspended, but I’m pretty sure you still have to take Writing II.

They changed the requirement so that you can’t take a SECOND Writing II in place of the now extinct seminar requirement.
