Really confused about drop in math sub-score

I omitted one question, and really believed I had not missed any other question. Though yeah, I can account for two or three stupid mistakes, I still got a 680. I thought I would at least get a 740

Hello. I just got my SAT I scores from the October test date and I’m pleased overall but really confused about my math score:

CR 630
M 490 ???
W 650 (Essay 8)

Back in May when I took the test for the first time, I got the same composite but different sub-scores:

CR 560
M 610
W 600 (Essay 9)

I have no idea how I messed up the math section and scored 120 points lower than before. I had done a decent amount of preparation over the summer as well so I was expecting an increase :(

I’m really confused and sad, and not sure how colleges will look at this score decrease… I’ve also already requested the scores to be sent to some of my schools. Should I ask for a remark? How would this affect the application process?

I realise this might be a pointless thread but I don’t know what to do

I had the same thing… I scored a 650 the first time… and even though i practiced a lot, my score went down to a 620 for October.

It’s normal for your score to go down a little from test to test, but i mean 120 points lower? Are you sure they scored it right? I mean people often go down, but not by that much. I would take it again, this time focusing mostly on math. Wait till October 29th, which is when they’ll release the detailed information, and look at your weaknesses, and practice those.

All 3 of my scores went down even though i studied a lot for this one. Is there something messed up we the college Board or are we just unfortunate. My brother and my friend had the same thing happen to them

For all of you whose scores declined, how did you study? I’m curious if you focused on taking official practice tests and carefully reviewed each question afterwords.

I took veritas say prep. We did it all. Practice tests, strategies, lectures, vocab. I am really disappointed.

Check out the stickied study guides on this forum. You might do better with these free tools than with verities.

1 year ago I scored a 183 on the PSAT. 55 Reading, 68 Math, 61 Writing. Today I received my scores for my first SAT and I scored a 2250: 680 Reading, 770 Math, 800 Writing. Couldn’t be happier. I owe the bast majority of my success to the SAT Prep Black Book by Mike Barrett.

I got a 770 when I was extremely confident that I got an 800. Not extremely disappointed, but a bit surprised. Wait and see on Oct. 29th when we get our full score reports to see exactly how many questions we all missed.

Okay thank you for the replies. I followed different people’s advice here on CC but mostly just did practice tests and later went over them. I did about 2 a week in the summer and then some vocab, reading and math practice/revision in between each test… I didn’t follow any course though.

One more question though - would it be worth retaking in December or should I just request a remark or something?

I still can’t believe it ugh I’m so disappointed :(

I’m really confused about my math score also. I got 800 CR, 800 W, and 710 math. I knew for a fact I had gotten one wrong but I was almost positive I hadn’t gotten any other questions wrong. I think 710 would mean I got 4 wrong, but even when I look at the discussion threads again, I can’t account for 3 more missed answers. I’ve taken about 30 practice tests in the last 8 months and math has always been my strongest section. I usually got 0-1 wrong in math and NEVER got 4 wrong. Of course, I might have made a mistake when filling in my answers, but I never did so on practice tests and I’m usually not that careless. I ordered the QAS, so when I get that I’ll hopefully see what I did wrong.

If I were you, I would retake, just because I haven’t heard of anyone getting back a considerable amount of points from the score verification.

To those of you who felt your math score was abnormally low, which experimental did you have? I’m curious whether something might have happened with a certain form of the test. Unlikely, but I’m just curious.

Ik Its not really related to the post, but RishabC297: Please share your thoughts that how did you increse your CR score from 55 psat to 680 sat? I really need help for this section:/
I usually average 580-600 on this section :frowning: need a 650+ atleast :/

I had an experimental math section.
