Really confused... help

Ok, so a couple of weeks ago I was deciding on where to go next year between OSU and Duke, and I ended up picking Duke. I thought this would end all of my thoughts about it, but I keep coming back to Ohio State wondering if I made a mistake. I feel like I would fit in better at Ohio State because honestly, the people on the Duke facebook page seem very snobby and ******y (not all, but a lot). I’m pretty sure I can still change my mind as long as it’s before May 1st.

What should I do?

I wouldn’t base my decision on a facebook page. Other than these facebook people, how did you like each school and what they offered? How did you feel when you visited campus? You will find people like those you mentioned wherever you go. You don’t have to be friends with them when you get there. There will be 100’s of other people who are not like that at either school. Duke is a very different atmosphere than Ohio State.

Honestly, I know exactly what you mean. I had a similar situation. It sounds like your gut is telling you Ohio State. A Facebook page, I think, can tell you a lot about what kinds of people go to a school, because it gives you a random sample population of the school. I also creeped on your posts and saw that your would go to OSU for free…Duke isn’t worth the money. No school except Harvard is. If you were truly passionate and dying to go to Duke, which it doesn’t sound like you are, then Duke might be the choice worth the debt. But it’s not in this scase.

Choose Ohio State. It sounds like that is what your heart wants.

Take the free ride hands down. You will be so happy you did four years from now when you aren’t saddled with debt.

Bear in mind that whichever school you choose, if you don’t like it after a year or so, it would likely be easier to transfer from Duke to OSU than the other way around. My husband and I lived in NC briefly and found the people very nice and the Duke campus lovely. If money is not an issue, I would not be quick to dismiss Duke. That said, my son absolutely loves OSU.

I love OSU and will probably go there but depending on your field of study, a name school can help build connections that can really help you later in life. But a full ride is really something to consider. Plus obviously Ohio State is a great school.

What is your gut telling you to do? How do you feel when you think about going to OSU? To Duke? Is money part of the equation? How did you feel when you were visiting each campus (you did do that, right?)? You know the answer. Go with it. Both schools are great, albeit very different.
