Two years ago, I applied to Phillips Exeter as a junior and was rejected.

Last year I applied to Phillips Exeter as a repeat junior and was waitlisted. As a legacy who got straight As this was frustrating. In the end, the waitlist closed in August and I wasn't yet accepted.

Now a senior, I applied to colleges as well as Exeter as a repeat senior. I was accepted to UChicago and waitlisted at Exeter. Then, finally, today I was accepted off Exeter's waitlist.

Have you decided whether you are going to Uchicago or Exeter. And also, I wasn’t aware you could apply for a repeat senior year, I thought the only option was a post grad year.

But I thought I’d add something for other students who are listening - a lot of straight A legacy kids are rejected or waitlisted. Sometimes it’s not academic ability or grades, sometimes it’s just not the right fit. My D realized this and ended up trying - her second year - for a broader range of schools that were closer to her personality and ended up on a campus where she is happy and thriving.

So I hope other students to consider that if you don’t get the answer you want, sometimes it’s because there is another, better, option out there. Perseverance is key - but sometimes getting what we want, means bypassing where we were really meant to be.

I love Exeter but can’t imagine why you’d bypass UChicago to repeat senior year.

I agree with Exie on both counts. Sounds like they accepted you for a post-grad year; why go post-grad when you have a terrific college acceptance? But congratulations all around!

I have to agree with both Exie and classicalmama. You were accepted to a wonderful place at UChicago. Congratulations on both and good luck with your final decision!
