Sorry if this sounds really dumb, but I am a rising senior and I have been looking into scholarships and i was wondering if any colleges don't recognize or let you pay for their tuition with certain scholarships. I am looking into some really competitive schools and some of them don't give any merit aid, so I was wondering if any colleges deny the use of scholarship money....I would love to have clarification on that! =)

If you are receiving need-based aid, the school may reduce your FA package as a result of your scholarship money. However, if they reduce the loan portion of the FA package, that's a real savings to you.

You should check colleges' web sites, somewhere in their web pages on financial aid. There are variations in how outside scholarships are treated, from using all it with no impact on other aid, to substituting for loans or work-study to having it reduce the aid you receive.

I am pretty sure that my family doesn't fit the criteria for need based aid, which is why I am trying to look into a number of scholarships to help my parents out...
