Really good schools that aren't Ivy/ prestige

Are those the only two schools on your list?

King’s College Budo in Uganda, Punaho In Hawai (Obama went there), and St Albans (IVY in every sense but name recognition), St Sebastians, Radley College in England, and a few others in New York.

Who deosn’t dream of going to boarding school in Uganda.
Took us weeks to talk our D out of it.

No, I have 4 schools on my list, and I want to add one more. I don’t want to add too many because I already have one “safety” and I don’t want to spend too much time nor my parents the money, because I’ll only be going to one school.
We’re visiting to 2 schools this December. One in the southish part and one in the NE.

So, should I add Kent or Millbrook. I won’t be able to visit neither though… So what do you think?
I think they’re both great, although I like Kent more…, but I don’t know how high my chances would be.
Could you guys give me more info on these 2 schools?

Grateful for this post. I find these schools the most difficult to get to know. The top schools are known by reputation, lots of objective statistics out there, and occupy most of the post content on CC. Please keep the details coming!!

I just joined forum
This post has really helped us in our search – Thanks.

Also consider St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School, The Webb School, and Darlington.

Proctor
3,000 acre campus!

I know a lot of kids who go to Proctor and LOVE It ! It has too many innovative and interesting things to list here so check out their website.
from their website

"Some seek Proctor’s carefully crafted balance of academic rigor with structured support. For others, it is our unique experiential programs such as Ocean Classroom, Mountain Classroom, Costa Rica or the language immersion terms in France or Spain. "

It is a unique and respected school.

Oh, I looked into Proctor. I really liked it but, I didn’t include it in my list. I still want it to be a “college prep” school. And I’m still making my list too.

why would you say that Proctor is not college prep?
here is a link to the matriculation data and college counseling

[Please wait…](http://www.proctoracademy.org/pa_today/college/matriculation.asp?bhcp=1)

Well, I like Proctor and I think it’s good, and yes it is college prep. But what I’m trying to say is that I want a school with higher standards and scores, if you know what I mean. Not too high, but just in an adequate range.

ok but thats not what you said in your first post
you said
“So, what are some really good schools that a student with about a 65-85% SSAT score apply to and be challenged at the same time but not overly competetive? and there’s good F/A and outdoor activities.
Schools that this kind of student will actually have a shot at, about a 50% chance?
School with a good rep. but doesn’t get recognized/ is being developed/ etc.”

Which is EXACTLY what Proctor is
although their average ssat may be a bit lower than what you specify they certainly fit the bill with all else especially with outdoor activities.
Heck they spend 4-5 days out in the white mountains together before school even starts!
then they have the whole mountain classroom thing … and who would not be challenged spending a semester in Spain ?
well I could go on … I only know kids who go there and I find the school to be very innovative and interesting with plenty of unusual opportunities .
but hey its just a suggestion …
have fun looking !

Well, thanks a lot for bringing it up again and giving me more info. =]
The statistics are kinda the only reason why I’m holding back and FA %
I need FA, and I’m not sure they would give me a whole lot based on what someone said. But, I’ll ask them later…
Are/ have you been in a boarding school/ applying to any schools/ have someone from your fam. applying?

tiger_max22
I sent you a pm

I also need FA like tiger_max but I don’t need very good schools…
since I’m an international and many schools say that they do not offer FA for int’l students… I’m kinda at a standstill…

tiger_max22, so what schools have you also chosen on your search?

I think that St. Mark’s is quite good too, and the acceptance rate is quite high.

Yes. Saint Mark’s used to be a top elite school in 1970’s and 1980’s. Now it is coming back to those glories with their new schoolhead. Its acceptance rate was about 27% last year. More than expected number of students accepted the year before the last year. Its sports rival is Groton, and it is one of the St. Grottlesex(St. Paul, St. Mark, St. George, Groton, and Middlesex). It is a small school and the school body is so close to each other. It is a great and excelelnt school.

how about st’james?
its average SAT score is 1910.
it sounds great.
can anyone give me some more information about this school?
3Q

well i think i’d put MPS (Miss Porter’s) and Emma Willard on this list as well =)

Are those all girls school?

I don’t know why but I don’t think I would survive. I think that there would be cliques, high competition, isolation, and desolation…
I just don’t want to live with the same gender for 2 whole years; I would go completely NUTS.
