Really Important ED Deadline Question

I posted this in another thread, but no one responded…if you know the answer, please help out, as I’m sort of confused/scared:

I appled ED to Brown using the online forms for both Part I and Part II. I submitted Part I a few weeks before the deadline. But I sent in Part II at exactly 5:02 pm on November 1 (ouch). My computer’s clock was a few minutes slower, so I thought it was exactly on time when I sent it. I haven’t received a password and username from Brown yet, but I did get a confirmation email that said that Part I and Part II were both received by Brown.

Here’s my question: Someone said the ED online deadline was 5:00 pm on November 1. Does this mean my ED application will automatically be deferred to RD, or rejected altogether? The thing is, some other people submitted ED apps online even later, thinking it was up until 11:59 pm. And many other people haven’t received usernames either, so maybe it’s ok? Anyone know for sure?

Be reasonable, their not gonna kick you out because of a few minutes.

yea but it sure doesn't look good either, the college knows the EXACT time you send an application...so even though that won't get you rejected, it will still look bad.

oh get real, adcoms only get to see a summary of your app anyway. I highly doubt that in the maybe 500 word summary 10 words will be used just to point out you were 2 minutes late. Adcoms discuss lifelong achievements, not 2 minute mishaps.
(unless of course you were automatically sent to RD, which is something no one here will be able to tell you for sure. The only way to find out is to ask the adm office yourself)

um dude...what I heard from a lot of college admission officers (for Columbia, Cornell, Rice, and Brown), they see EVERYTHING, and they specifically said "don't be one of those ppl that submit their applications at 11:59 before the due date", and like i said before, it does hurt a bit.

The deadline is just for scaring people, so they can get most of the apps in time. Trust me, I applied last year, and when I asked a few schools "is it ok if my app will be postmarked 5 Jan, instead of 1?" they said "sure, no problem".

Of course they're not gonna tell you before, "sure, send it in June, it's ok". Like, duuh.

And yes, they do read your WHOLE app. Only "they" are not the decision making adcoms.

ALSO, keep in mind: it's not adcoms who first see and record your application. aka the people who decipher your writing to print it out for review, etc. I really don't think adcoms are that interested in your home address or your mothers maiden name. You send a full app, some people transfer it to a specific format, then readers review it, send summaries to adcoms, and voila, decision.

I have a question to add onto this:

I submitted my app online 2 days be4 Nov 1st cuz I'm applying ED. The application page says "Parts I and II submitted" however I just got a letter that will let me check the status of my app, and in the slots for the PLME and the personal statement, nothing is there.

to summarize: Everything else shows up as having been submitted, except Part II. Is this most likely because they haven't processed it yet? should i call Brown to ask?

olam36, i'm sure it would not make a difference. i don't even know if the exact time submitted is recorded on the application pieces that admissions officers see. don't worry about it.

also, i'd like to point out that admissions officers do see the entire application, after which they make recommendations, pass them on to committee, whatever.

billybobbyk, there are a ridiculous amount of application materials to be filed right now. online part 2's need to be printed out, then filed, and then the fact it was filed needs to be recorded in the computer system, after which it will appear online for you. it's not necessary to call and ask. if you find that at the end of november it's still not online, i would call then.

thanks jenz. I saw my remaining stuff posted as "received" online today, so I'm glad I didn't panic and call. The only thing keeping my app from being complete now are my SAT results, which I'm sure will also be recorded soon (the CB site says my scores were sent).
