Really long explanation + Math Placement Test?

I still don't understand which placement tests are "necessary". I know that everyone has to take the writing entry exam. But what do I do about math? I am in AP Calc AB right now and will be taking the exam soon and need a 4 or 5 to be exempt from taking the placement test...but the test isn't required so I'm really confused about being exempt...

So what do I do if I get a 1 on the exam and skip the placement test? Will the placement test be required then or can I just skip the test and enter into a lower math class?

Explanations?? .-.

only the writing one is necessary to place you into what lower division writing they think you belong in.

nothing else is really necessary. i went into uc irvine with only the writing placement. depending on your major and what classes you want to take, you’d have to take the placement test that corresponds.

go to this website and enter in the info, it should help a ton.

the placement test is optional, and it lets you know which class you should be taking in college.

i believe to enroll in certain classes, you need to take a placement test and get a certain score.
