Im currently an undergraduate in Cal Poly Pomona University. I'm thinking about transfer to some art schools. I want to major in animation so...some suggestions? LCAD, Art center, CalArts? I really don't know. Art center and CalArts are very very expensive but at the same time I want to go to the top animation school. Before I got a chance to go to Art center for illustration major but I can't afford the tuition so I give up. i need some advice.. thank you!

If you are concerned about cost, then just stay within the CSU system. Any private college will be more expensive, especially if you’re a transfer student. So why do you want to leave Cal Poly Pomona? Are you currently in their animation program?

if you have good grades, a sweet portfolio and a nice chunk of extra-curriculars (volunteering, clubs, awards, etc), and show some financial need, you can get a really good scholarship at California College of the Arts. They’re also one of the few schools I know that give out full rides.

Their animation program is really good for being only four years old, and every semester it gets better. Teachers from Pixar, Tippett, Disney, really cool sources of information. Only down side I would say is that you NEED to be focused on your own. The program will not “baby” you and guide you, you kinda need to know what what you want to do and pursue it. If you just follow the assignments you will get no where. However, if you have a question regarding your focus, your teacher will more than likely know the answer and will gladly indulge.

Top programs in the US for animation though are indeed calarts, ringling, and maybe the school of visual arts.
