I'm only registered for 13 (of which most are "easy" classes) courses and thinking about adding a course with a writing component or a foreign language. I'll probably take spanish even though one of the profs mentioned that it's the toughest language compared to say, swahili. I've set a personal goal to learn 2 languages while at UF. We'll see how far that lasts.. haha

luckyeight - I think the CGS teacher, Desimone, also teaches in spring. The key is to get a good TA for your section. My daughter is signed up for the class for Fall but she will drop it if her schedule (16 credits) seems too heavy and reregister for the CGS class for the spring instead.

Interesting. I am still curious as to how this works. How many times does CGS 2531 meet per week? How many of these meetings are lectures by De Simone and how many are meetings with a TA?

Since a large part of my decision-making process was based off of judging teachers/classes by ratemyprofessors.com, I was hoping I could avoid De Simone during Fall and get someone better in the Spring...

Also, does anyone know who is teaching MAC 2233 this upcoming fall semester? Right now, it just says STAFF, which is basically TBD.

just some notes, IvyHopefulDad... i wouldnt reccommend calc 3 to start. i had two years of calc in HS and passed both tests, but decided to take Calc 2 over again. Especially with your son having an intro to engineering class (which i assume means thats his major?), he will want to make sure he has very strong math skills. If he has had really rigorous calc classes in HS and done well, he should be fine, but be careful of overwhelming him. Its gonna take an engineering major 5 years most likely anyway, no need to rush and not do stuff 100% :D

and seiclan, it sounds like your daughter will be fine. She probably wont find her 16 creds. too hard considering she has a good balance of easy and harder classes. My advice would be to make sure she has at least one class she is really interested in that may not be in her major. Something to keep her sane. I am minoring in theatre production along with my math major so i have a good balance and some fun classes in my life to keep things light.

my schedule:

psychology 2012 (intro) MWF 2nd
Calc 2 for AP (MAC 2512) MWF 3rd TR 6th
Theatre appreciation MWF 6th
Air Force ROTC R 4th
Anthropology T 7th R 7th8th

Im coming in with 10 credits, possibly more depending on this years tests. :)

Well, math is my S's pet subject and he excels in comparison with his peers in that too.

So I'll let him be his own judge, but thanks for the caution.

lacey, I am not sure who his prof was, but it makes me glad to hear he got out with a B if the class average was a D. His comments during the semester were that the quizzes would be fairly easy, but then the tests would be over things he had never seen before either in the lecture, books or quizzes. I guess his quiz average saved him because he was sure he was getting a C or worse. He is just glad to be out of it and swears to never take another calc course (which is sad because it was one of his favorites during hs).
