I know collegeboard changed it so that you have to pay for each of the two tests separately, but is each part of physics c counted separately or do both parts add up to one? For the purposes of getting National AP Scholar, Ap Scholar, APS w/ distinction, etc., would they count as 1 or 2? Thanks. hopes its two

It’s two, yo.

Considering that you get two separate grades, I’d say it’s definitely two tests.

Also, considering that you sit down for about 4 hours to take it, it is definitely two tests.

MIT takes it as credit, so I am assuming if you do just Mechanics you would start off in 2nd semester.

Ramblinman: actually, no. Unless things have changed since my freshman year, you actually need a 5 in both sections of the AP test in order to test out of 8.01 (mechanics) at MIT. And even then you can only skip mechanics, AP scores aren’t enough to get you out of E&M also (although there is a placement test you can take). Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me, but that’s how it is.

“For a score of 5 on both parts of the Physics C exam, credit will be given for 12 units of subject 8.01, Physics I. No credit is given for the Physics B exam. For scores lower than 5, no credit is awarded.”

For the other APs too: [MIT Admissions: Advanced Placement & International Exams](http://www.mitadmissions.org/topics/before/advanced_placement_international_exams/)

Oh, thanks.

Luckily, taking Physics at MIT definitely won’t feel like taking a class over again.

uh…4 hours!!!

I thought it was 90 minutes a part…

You have to have a 5 in both sections of the AP Physics test to start off in 8.02. You can also take an ASE to test out of 8.01 and 8.02
