OK so I'm going to be an college freshman this fall and I have a quick question regarding my college essays. So someone on cc applying next to the same school I'm going wanted to see my essays. I think my essays are what really helped my application so they wanted to see them. Is it OK to send my college application essays to someone on cc. I don't think they would steal my essays, and if they did I wouldn't really be affected anyway right?

i think the best bet is to give guidance. if you give someone your essays, especially on the internet, assume that they’ll be stolen. idk if you’ll get in trouble but i wouldn’t risk it

My personal opinion is that people really should write their own essays without reviewing those written by others. Now, some colleges even encourage sharing of essays (U of Chicago is one, I think). But my D didn’t post her essay there even though she got in. It just seems like people really need to speak in their own voice, and I can’t see how reviewing your essays will help someone else do that. I assume if someone “stole” your essays admissions might notice, depending on the school – but don’t know that you would formally get in trouble. But think hard about why you would want to share them. YOU came up with and formulated that essay – shouldn’t the class behind you have to do the same without possibly cribbing ideas/style/etc. from someone else?
