really stupid question

So anyway. I entered the hearst foundation senate youth program. I did the essays, took the test and now I'm going to the interview.

Here's my question: what kind of clothes should I wear?

If anyone could help it would certainly be appreciated.

Dress formally. For those kind of opportunities, it's better to be too formal than too informal. I also would expect that if you're competing for an opportunity to visit or work at the Senate, you'd be expected to dress formally when at the Senate.

So, I suggest a suit and tie if you're a guy. If you don't have a suit, a sports jacket, tie, formal pants with a belt. Make sure that your tie is conservative.

If you're female: a skirt, nonrevealing top, and, if possible a blazer or suit jacket, stockings, and formal shoes like pumps that you can formally walk in. Do not wear anything revealing, tight or short.

This isn't the time to display your piercings or tattoos.

You also could consider a pantsuit, but a skirt would seem more formal to any older (i.e. 60+) person who may interview you.

I also suggest bringing several copies of your resume even if you'd sent it before or even if they didn't ask for it. That also looks professional. I suggest "several" copies in case you're interviewed by a committee.

And make sure you're up with current events because I'd bet money they'll ask you some questions related to current events.
