Last week I found out I wasn't accepted at Cornell. I wasn't that upset since I figured it would happen. However, today I was told that a student from my school got accepted and another waitlisted and they both had lower stats and less ECs than me. I'm just sooooo upset. What does Cornell look for in the applications? Could someone try to tell me?

maybe thier essays were better than urs or thier majors were less competitive or they were a better fift for thier college

No their essays were not better since writing is sort of my thing. But I don't understand how the fact that one is a minority, should overshadow the 300+ SAT score change.

Personality/character via essays and recommendation...that's all I'm gonna say.

Yep... I agree

i doubt that kid only got in before u bc he's a minority.

Maybe he got in because he took responsbility for his achievements and failures rather than whining and taking cheap shots at others who succeeded ;).

Well Alcoholic, it's just not fair when those who are less qualified than you get ahead in life.

its a very simple case of the fact that he/ she had a rich daddy who could pay his kid through Cornell ;)

No..it was not a rich parent sort of thing.
The fact is that I had higher SAT scores, better GPA, better rank, more ECS (waaaayyy more), better essay and similar recomm.
I just don't understand this.
Well I must say that the person has a gift for art and a sibling attends the school. But is that supposed to substitute for everything else??

How can you base a person's qualifications on stats? If you can't realize that a person's contribution to the Cornell community isn't solely based on figures than you probably made serious errors in your application. Colleges don't want numbers, they want a person who will bring something positive to the campus. Obviously you're immature and bitter, so just stop trying to undermine the achievements of your classmates who will be here next fall while you whine about how people who are less qualified than you did better on a test at another college. I really don't have any sympathy for you, to be perfectly blunt.

edit- also, I don't see the point of you reiterating that you had better stats than them, since that's not going to change anything.

Alcoholic, it's quite sad that your own opinions fire back at you. How can you have no sympathy for me if you don't even know me?
Maybe this is hitting you hard because you were one of those students who got accepted for no reason? I see how it is.

paleridden that kid is not the only kid u were competing aganist to get into cornell how about 28000 people. it is hard for u to come to terms u aren't as good as u think u are. By the way if u are referring to affrimative actions indirectly, that kid is qualifed and obvious more qualifed than u r. u lack the character of a cornellian bc a cornellian would never say bc of one factor some one got into this school over me. what r u reasons for the 5900 who got in over u?

How did my opinion backfire? My SATs are above average for Cornell, pal. I don't need to know someone to have/lack sympathy for him/her. You are irritating me because I think you're whiney and immature and I dislike people of that nature, since my AP classes were full of them. From the nature of your posts, I can tell that you're entirely undeserving of sympathy and can't own up to your own flaws. Once again, you must impose your inadequacies on others (me, this time). I go here, you don't and never will. I was probably ranked higher than you, if you want to get into that. That being said, have a nice time at your mediocre college.

I am againt affirmative action. And why should I be for it? Just to see those less qualified get into Ivy Leagues? Too bad. I'm sorry that our government ****ed up and I'm sorry that minorities didn't get equal representation in the past. But why should I suffer because of it?
And no, I didn't expect to get into Cornell. I was fine with the fact until I realized that someone who shouldn't, in fact did.

Oh Alcoholic. I can own up to my flaws and surely I have flaws, like any other human being. That doesn't mean that I can't have a say for what I feel.
And the way you started to compare is really ridiculous. I'm glad you're THAT immature and bitter (in your own words MATE). I thought Cornellians were more than that. I guess I was wrong.

nobody said u should be for AA, but crybaby AA didn't reject ur sorry arse from Cornell. Cleary people with stats like HiImAnAlcoholic and many others and myself have better stats than u by far. so suck it up and be ready to be a yes sir man loser.

Sure AA didn't reject me from Cornell. But I would have to study twice as hard to compete with someone that's a minority.
And I don't see how that's possible seeing that I rank #1.

You suggested I was unqualified to go here and I merely said that you were wrong, citing evidence in my stats. You basically implied that I should compare, to shoot down your absurd comment that I was unqualified to go here and was defensive because of my poor stats, when I was really angry because of my disdain for people who make excuses.

My valedictorian got rejected almost everywhere because he was a drone with perfect scores and typical SATs. At least he didn't whine about it.

If you were #1, then why didn't you expect to get in. You'd stated in previous posts that you were not surprised by your rejection.

paleridden that is the biggest BS i have ever read. please if ur against AA have a principle, not some egotisic racist generalization.
