Applying to Cornell Early Decision, I initially checked off that I qualify for a fee waiver and my Cornell login took me to a place that said the fee waiver hasn't been processed yet. (My guidance counselor didn't approve me yet). It's past the November 1st deadline and because of a misunderstanding, I no longer qualify for a fee waiver. I'm trying to go back and pay for the $75 fee on common app, but it looks like it's locked and I can't get to the fee.

Does anyone know how to pay the common app fee PAST the ED deadline? Very nervous at the moment :(

I don’t know the answer to your question…but for others reading this…THIS is the reason all documents should be prepared for submission at least a week before the deadlines…thus giving enough time to rectify issues.

To the OP…hopefully on Monday…a business day…you will have better success contacting the common ap folks.

You need to call the Cornell admissions office. As you know, you missed the deadline, so you now need some special help to process that app. The best thing to do is to get with your GC, and have her approve the free app, call Cornell Admissions and get to your admissions officer, explain the situation and get exception. The door is shut once the deadline has passed, and you missed it. Otherwise, there would be flood of applicants doing this for any and all reasons.

Unfortunately this had to do with the CSS form. I was only aware of the FAFSA, and when we were filling the CSS out (right now), I mentioned that I had applied for a fee waiver. Turns out I don’t qualify but my guidance counselor never got back to me on the request sent by Common App or clicked reject. Cornell still says my fee waiver hasn’t been received, but nothing to pay the $75 if I wanted to. I’ll call Monday and mention my late CSS submission and fee waiver. Hopefully they’ll understand about the fee misunderstanding.

Just an FYI…deadlines are there for a reason. It is important to adhere to the deadlines…and sub, opting early is helpful. The deadline for the Profile has also been on Cornell’s website since early fall.

Good luck tomorrow.

In the meantime, check ALL of the deadlines for everything for your regular decision applications, and plan to submit a week early…just in case there is another SNAFU.

Yeah. I know that I should’ve been on top of the financial aid deadlines, but I really had no clue about the CSS form. I went to my guidance counselor and she said not to worry because January 1st was the earliest I could even fill out the form for FAFSA, so I thought my part was done for now since everything else was in…just had to wait on her to do the fee waiver.

I actually never looked at the financial aid deadlines for ED, only saw RD. My fault. On Cornell’s website that I have a login for, the Financial Aid “to-do” list said I didn’t have anything left to submit for them, so I thought I was done with my app. Guess not :(

When I found out last night I think I went pale because of how horrified I was. Thank you for the feedback, I’ll need as much luck as I can get!

It is the college board who determines if you are eligible for a CSS profile fee waiver when you click the button. If you are not eligible for a profile fee waiver, you must pay the fee or your profile does not get processed. While your GC is correct in telling you that Jan 1 is the earliest that you can file the FAFSA, it is your responsibility (and your parents) to go to the financial aid section to see what you need to submit in order to be eligible for financial aid and submit the paperwork on time. It literally took me less than 5 seconds to type Cornell financial aid early decision to get this link

Were you eligible for SAT fee waivers?
If yes, then the college board emailed you4 college application fee waivers (they are no longer handled by the GC). In this case it was your responsibility to log in to your email, access your fee waiver code from the college board and submit your fee waiver.

It looks like you did not do your due diligence and dropped the ball on a few things as both your application and financial aid paperwork are both late

If you were not eligible for or received a SAT fee waiver, it is unlikely that your GC was going to approve you for a common app fee waiver.

Just to clarify: I mentioned that I applied for a fee waiver on common app to my parent filling out the CSS form. That’s when I found out I don’t qualify this year and had to make changes. I emailed Common App and worked the fee payment out, I just have to call and tell Cornell I submitted the CSS profile 2 days late.

@sybbie719 I’m not sure why I never looked on their site for Financial Aid for ED. I kept seeing regular decision info and until last night, I discovered your link above as I was searching and found out I was a day late. I thought that they would have notified me through email or their “Application Status” portal that has a list of things I needed to submit/still have not submitted. Really was confused since I thought something seemed off.

If I don’t submit the CSS on time, will my application be rescinded? Or do I just get no financial aid/notified later than others?

You have to let them know that you are applying for financial aid. If you don’t tell them and submit paperwork, then you will not get aid. Your application will not be rescinded and overall, I beleive that you will be fine. Just breathe and wait for the results in december

Did you and your family run your numbers through the net price calculator to see if Cornell is even a financially feasible option for your family?

It’s up to Cornell admissions as to whether they will accept your application as ED late due to your issues, or if you just have to go RD. Call them and find out.

@sybbie719 Well, the CSS profile was submitted today and I’ll call them tomorrow to see what effect this has on my application. Back in September when we checked using the calculator, it was affordable if and only if I received that aid…it was very generous!

Thank you to everyone who commented! After submitting everything I’m just going to have to relax now. Hopefully everything will work out in the end!

The CSS Profile will have no affect on your admission. It is a financial aid application. The issue is…you applied ED to Cornell and you apparently missed their ED financial aid application deadline. You need to call the FINANCIAL aid office about the late Profile and see if you will still get a financial aid award with your ED acceptance (if you get one) since your Profile was submitted a day late.

Then call admissions and inquire about your application. Explain the issue with payment, and see if this is OK for ED.

I have done the same thing. Although deadline is Jan 5, but the university seems to be closed until Jan 3. I have not yet received a decision on my fee waiver request, but I might get a rejection after the deadline.
I was wondering if you finally got your application submitted. Any tips on what should I do?
