Essay - I plan on writing about how my GPA is low due to a medical illness i had causing depression. After finding a donor, I decided I wanted to become a and became extremely motivated to work(hence the SAT). I will PM it to anyone whose nice enough to give me their advice (Class 08 and older)

AND I'm a minority, Persian-American.

Iranian counts as white I think. Minority really only helps you if you're black, Hispanic, or Native American.

And I don't think that's a very smart choice for an essay topic. Nobody ever wants to hear excuses, because that just draws attention to your weaknesses. Your SAT scores and everything else are good, so I think you can definitely get in if you apply early decision.

Yeah, I would just make a note about the GPA thing. A whole essay about it seems kinda "woe is me".

Parent here... persian american is considered a minority. Were you a donor recipient? If that is the case, I think your essay topic is a very good one. IMO, writing about a life changing event and what you gained from it always gives insight into a person. What make you tick and what inspires you. Taking a negative and making it a positive. Adcom look for character and what inspires you. Good luck. Your stats by the way are very impressive and I think you may have a good shot. Pre Med?

bimachris--

Thanks, I plan on doing ED.

frozenlight89--

Yea, I have considered the supplementary note being about the gpa.

milkandsugar--

thanks, I'm so glad you're a parent and also that you know a good amount of information about this. If you don't mind, I would love it if you could read my essay and tell me what you think. Your brutal criticism is wanted! lol
Let me know.

I would love to read your essay. Just PM me when you are ready.

You can send it to me too if you don't mind harsh criticism (within the bounds of it still being your voice of course). Double note: I can be very tough when reviewing papers.

Milkandsugar and collectivsynergy--

I sent it to both of you all, I look forward to hearing back.

collectivsynergy--

I don't mind at all lol, I looked at your other posts too make sure you weren't 09 or younger and saw someone of your "harsh criticism" on some posts lol and thats exactly what Im looking for.

Keep them coming

Oh post your stats in this thread man. You're applying in the fall for Class of '13 right?

I'm trying to collect data on all the applicants so we can all see how we measure up to each other.

zain, I will be getting back to you shortly. going to read it today.

persian is a minority but colleges don't care unless you're an Underrepresented minority (black, hispanic, Native american). Asians/Mideastern kids are not URM.

anyway if I were you I wouldn't write about that for your essay, you can bring it up in the additional info section.
