Essay - I plan on writing about how my GPA is low due to a medical illness i had causing depression. After finding a donor, I decided I wanted to become a doctor and worked hard for SAT and such.

OK SOOO, I know my GPA is really low and am not sure how much good SAT,good essay, good EC's would make up for it.

Your GPA is a killer, but everything else looks terrific. Do write a good essay regarding your low GPA. Good luck!

There have been applicants with 3.0 GPAs and lower SAT scores than yours who have made it in. If you back it up with your rigorous class list and nice list of ECs you will be an easy admit. Best of luck, hope to see you there.

Thanks for replying.

I'm guessing you currently go there. If you don't mind telling me, how is the atmosphere of UW and of Seattle? I have heard a lot of stuff about the unbearable rainy weather lol but other than that is it a fun place to live? Is there always stuff to do or is it like typically life-less and boring?

Well I am actually going to start as a freshman in August, but since I've been around the campus a fair amount I'll try and answer your questions. Just take my answer with a grain of salt.

The rain does get annoying sometimes, but you learn to deal with it. If you look at rainfall statistics you'll see that even parts of Texas get more rain than Seattle, so we really don't get torrential downpours or anything. Just expect a light drizzle from October to April. The summers are nice because they are warm but still tame, so the temperature tends to hover around the mid 80s.

If you come from a really sunny area then I have to admit that the rain might get to you a little bit. However, many people come from SoCal or the South and grow to love the rain, so even if you dislike rain, I would not let that sway your decision.

While there are bigger, busier college towns out there, Seattle really is a great place to go to college. The music scene in particular is fantastic. One nice thing about UW is the UPass. If you can't or don't want to bring a car to campus, you can pay $44/quarter for a pass that grants you free rides on all inner-city buses, as well as some other bus systems and the Sounder commuter train. Buying the pass also gets you some discounts from stores/restaurants/etc. This system makes it really easy to travel around the city and really explore all that Seattle has to offer.

Even if you don't want to travel around the city much, the Ave has a lot of cool shops and restaurants right next to campus. Some of them even take your Husky Card to pay for your meal or whatever.

Overall, I think there's a nice balance between normal college life and city life. Sure, a lot of the on-campus party life is stereotypical frat parties, but since UW is so big, you will have no trouble finding someway to entertain yourself. And if you still can't find anything to do on campus, there is plenty to do in the city. I don't think you'll have any trouble finding stuff to do. :)

I really enjoy UW! Woo! (4th year International Studies major)

The AVE gets boring after 3 years of hanging around it but you learn to deal with it.

I'm not very helpful because I'm tired, but I hope you get in because some of those kids with good GPAs in high school don't do well in college. My high school GPA wasn't amazing, but I'm doing very well in college.
