Really want to go to Texas, but there was a screwup in the app. HELP!

Hey guys,
I like UT Austin, and their dual degree Architecture and Architectural Engineering program. I submitted my app well before the deadline date and wrote the essays required on the ApplyTexas website. Unfortunately, they called me THREE WEEKS after the deadline date to tell me I was missing an essay. First off, when I went on the ApplyTexas website and it told me that only B was required. A,C, and D were optional. So I sent them that essay. This is three weeks after the deadline, so my app was under a huge pile of other ones and they probably admitted loads of eng students by now. I also had to send a letter of appeals to be reviewed as an on-time applicant. I recieved a leter from them saying that I didn't get into the eng/arch schools at Texas because t they filled up and they stuck me in the liberal arts.

The reason Texas denied me was because there was a discrepancy in the essays ( I only submitted the ones they said on the ApplyTexas website, but apparently that page was wrong) AKA, I can't see how it's my fault.

Even after I appealed to be reviewed as an on time candidate, they screwed me over. So now I don't know what to do with the deadline approaching. I reaaaaaaaly like UT Austin and I reaaaaaly likem their dual degree program. I've been accepted to Georgia Tech for Civil Eng. and I've been waitlisted at Stanford. I definitely would like to go to UT Austin. I'm thinking I should write an email to the dean of architecture and the dean of engineering. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks. And congrats to those of you who got in.

good luck to you.

UT is gonna be my safety net.
i'm already accepted under the 10% rule.

The Apply Texas website does not and never has said that.

If you can produce a printout that says otherwise, they might hear your appeal. But otherwise I'm sorry, you just probably misread something. Apply Texas says A & B are required UNLESS you are applying to a special major, when you may have to replace one of those with another essay. But you write two no matter what.

The only successful appeals I've ever heard of were from kids who were not in the top ten when they applied but were when they graduated (UT is obligated to accept them).

I wish I had better advice for you, this is a really lousy situation. :( Have you considered spring admissions? You could fill your fall semester doing something productive (study/volunteer abroad, something along those lines).

Damn that really sucks bad.. if I remember you had some nice stats coming in. Don't know how the essay mistake was made, but that really sucks bad.

You could always just do an internal transfer from COLA to Civil Eng., right?

Yeah actually now that I read further you have no recourse other than attending for a year and doing an internal transfer.

Once a decision is released they do not adjust college placement (as I asked them a few months ago). You are in that college thru frosh year.

I don't see what the big deal is. I'd say go and get the distribution reqs out of the way and then transfer to the college you want.
