I have had a few ideas for essays that seem to bring out above-average essays, but ones that aren't really that unique. It's embarrassing to admit this, but I have a unibrow and was kind of thinking about writing an essay about it. My english teacher said it might be a thing to consider because self-deprecation can emanate beneficial qualities. What do you think????

just write the essay! you’re far away from having to submit anything. you’ll probably write and rewrite many times. go for it, see what comes out.

bump bump bump

Bump bump bump

I agree with llilliann, just write about it and see how you go, and you might also have your English teacher read it and she probably can give you some advice.
My nephew’s personal essay topic was about his haircut, it was well written and nothing weird about it.

write it! i wrote a rough draft about awkward flirting experiences lol…im not sending it but it was a good way to start writing less formally

Writing something is almost always better than writing ABOUT writing something.

It’s not a really weird idea to be honest. I’ve read several hairy essays that got in, some of them were written by my close friends.

Do one thing. Write the starting…think about the middle, write the ending. So that you have a good idea of what the thing might turn out to be in the end. Then see if it has any substance.

This made me smile…no, it made me slightly cackle. I’ve personally never heard of anyone writing about their body hair in an essay for college, but anything is possible. To come up with such a topic, or even innovate on a previously used idea, makes me think the essay has great potential. I think you should write and see where you go from there. So many different paths can be taken from one idea. And if you don’t like it in the end, you can always toss it and try something new.

It could be a good essay because it shows you’re able to accept your “flaws”. Also, small issues let your voice stand out more and show your personality.

Watch Anthony Davis’s interviews - he had one with Jimmy Kimmel where they talked about his unibrow most of the time lol.

Unibrow is something that can be shaven off… however if you didn’t it could be a good essay if you talk about specific situations etc where you felt embarrassed about it. Just my opinion.

I think it sounds like a great idea. It is a topic that no one ever see’s, especially if you are reading college entrance essays night and day.So you have that going for you. If you are creative enough to make an entire essay about something as common as body hair, then you will definitely impress the reader with that aspect of your personality.

My first thought that your essay would be something funny while at the same time endearing. If you can have someone read an essay and completely forget that they are reading something, and just get lost in the story, it will be a success.

So basically, just like any other topic that you could write about-if you can write it well then it will be a good idea. It is going to boil down to how well you can get the life and humor across in the essay. I do agree that writing about something that is close to home(as a uni-brow is) is important. You have to write about what you know and that would be something that was a part of your experience for a long time.

Word. Just write the essay, letting your idea loosely drive you if you want. But don’t be afraid to wander in a different direction. The college essay is not an academic essay: your goal is not to make a point but to leave the reader with an impression of you.
