Really weird essay topic?

The prompt: Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family.

I started my essay but haven’t finished. I am talking about when I went to China when I was 13 with just my younger sister and how I bought a Chinese school uniform since everyone else wore these everyday, everywhere. Whenever I would be in public everyone would stare and wonder if I just didn’t go to school. But I was going to write how after getting that uniform and wearing it that I felt strangely accepted. A feeling that isn’t very strong when I go to school in Missouri with very few Asian-Americans. After talking about that, I was going to say that this made me become more accepting of my Chinese heritage.

But then I looked at the prompt again and it says “within your culture, community, or family”… This event was more my own perception of when I became an “adult”. Also, I’m unsure about my overall topic anyways…it’s kinda weird but I can’t get it out of my head. I’ve tried coming up with other topics but this one keeps on coming back up…

LOL this is so embarrassing… Wish CC has an option to delete threads :-"

I think the prompts this year are so bleh…you have to make of them what you can. This would also be a good answer to the “something so integral to your being” prompt.

I would however be careful of giving the impression of you wanting to blend in, so maybe spend the most time on what happened next, meaning you learned to embrace the difference and did…
