I recently got accepted to the University of Maryland but today I got back my report card for last semester. I got a D in my honors Calculus class. I am worried Umd will rescind my acceptance if they see it. Do you think it is a big deal? If i am able to pull a B this semester in it will it matter?

I do not know what Maryland will do with your D. Likely it is not a killer but you should probably find out the answer now by bringing it to Maryland’s attention and asking for the potential impact. It is far better to learn any bad news now, so you can consider options, rather than waiting until July to be given bad news if that is the result.

Agree 110% with post #4. A surprising number of people react to this advice with “Why should I call their attention to it?” as if they won’t notice. Friends, people in admission are paid to check and evaluate transcripts. They will notice. So you might as well find out what they’re going to do now rather than in the summer. Furthermore right now you have more options to make up the work (perhaps a summer class, etc) if that’s what they want; those will be gone if they check your final transcript after you graduate, receiving it sometime in July or August.

I think you’re doing the right thing. Plus it shows maturity in an adcoms eyes to own up to a situation rather than hope it slides by; just as it will later in the workforce when you own up to your boss and/or team to mistakes and problems.
