Back in high school when I was applying to college for fall 2012 I was waitlisted at my top choice. I decided not to take a gap year or anything and just went to college somewhere else for a semester. In addition, this turned out to be a good choice because the other college was closer to home and therefore I could tend to my mother who was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.
Anyway, I reapplied as a transfer student to the college I was waitlisted at and was wondering what my chances are. Am I more likely to get in since I was waitlisted initially or should I have waited to complete a year before reapplying?

If you sent materials (a letter reiterating your interest, another teacher rec, etc) after you were wait listed then those will probably be in your file and would be considered positive factors for admission.

Your odds of admission should be quite good, but really depends upon the number of spaces available & number & quality of competing applicants for those spaces.

1) How much did you get in college?
2) What’s your ECs?
3) What is your first-choice college?

Based on his other posts, OP is transferring to either the University of Miami or to Fordham University.

Well, it depends on teh college. I have a friend who got a weird response from USC saying theres no room for the year he applied, but they will let him come the next year though he had to apply. He ended up at sjsu for a year and applied but got in as a spring.

College transfers have lower requirements.

I actually already got into University of Miami and my deposit has been placed there. Fordham I reapplied to this year but got in for fall 2012 when I applied as a senior in high school. I am still waiting to hear back from them. I got waitlisted at Rice and reapplied there this year as well. Rice would be my number 1 choice.
I put my deposit at UM as a safety in case I don’t get into Rice. I think if I get into Fordham again I may go there though since I kinda expect a decent amount of financial aid despite the fact that I am a transfer student. They gave me loads when I first applied

Oh and in case anyone is wondering why I didn’t go there in the first place…
My mother got stage 4 cancer and so I decided to go to UCF which is like 5 miles from where I live to take care of her. My mom and I agreed I would stay only a semester since I hate it there. I just did it for her. Now my dad should be retiring so that he can take care of her and I can go to the school I wish to attend.
