Reapply after rejection?

unfortunately i got rejected by Pitt yesterday. i was wondering is it at all possible to re-apply? I plan on taking the ACTs or retaking the SATs if necessary. i even emailed the admissions office this same question and i'm just waiting to here back.

I don’t think you can but wait for an admissions person to reply. I think the first batch of deferral/rejections went out yesterday because I know someone who got deferred :(. Best of luck to you though!

I don’t think you have to completely reapply, but send in any new scores and supplemental information (did you send an essay?) and ask for reconsideration.

Another thing you might want to do, especially since it is so early and you are in Pittsburgh anyway, is to make an appointment to speak with an admissions representative in person and get advice on how to proceed.

thanks i appreciate your thoughts! I just got emailed back today by the admissions office they said i can reapply after i submit my 2nd quarter grades which will definately boost my GPA. and with newer SAT and ACT scores. They said if there is not change in scores or grades the decision is likely to remain the same, otherwise they would reject me again. I just don’t plan on giving up hahaha

Maybe you can start at one of the branch campuses. Did you indicate an alternate?

yeah on the application you have to rank in order the branch campuses so i went 1.pitt main 2. greensburg 3.johnstown 4. braddock 5. titusville.

i already sent in an essay but when i reapply its just new SAT scores ACT and transcripts. ill be able to send my 1st semester of college transcripts this time too.

D got deferred (3.4, V620, M630). Not a happy day at our house.

All is not lost. Transfers are always a good option if you get good grades at a 2nd choice school. I have a kid who got rejected from a school, went elsewhere and got into the first school as a transfer student…and graduated last year from it with honors, within 4-years (made sure that all credits would transfer). Of course, 2nd choice school can also turn out to be a great choice.

Waiting to see what D does now. …she has three more schools that won’t give decisions until mid-Dec or Jan, so this is going to be a long wait.

I think she’ll still get in. It may just be an Easter present.

Yes, her scores are quite good. Maybe Pitt is expecting a huge increase in the number of applicants.

My friend got deferred with a 3.8 W (dunno bout UW) and a 1900 SAT (not sure bout the specific sections). I was shocked when I heard it, but maybe LurkNessMonster is right.

Our GC says that Pitt typically takes only a certain number of students from each HS, and that this means that more students from our HS with higher stats were accepted already. Getting accepted will depend on how many of them indicate they will go.

My one friend was deferred to a regional campus and she had a pretty solid academic background. I heard they want you to do two years or something at a regional campus before you can transfer onto the Oakland campus… I don’t know how that makes sense because her grades are very high at a regional campus and they still keep giving her trouble.
