I’ve been thinking about reapplying for 10th grade. I don’t know if it is worth the time because I have heard that barely anybody is accepted the second time around. I was waitlisted for 4 schools last year and I still really want to attend them. Is there anybody here accepted for 10th grade in the past? If so, can you give me some advice on how I should approach reapplying?
@stargirl3 was accepted as a 10th grader on her 3rd time around. She’s not around much these days, (or is just lurking) but search her past posts which are a veritable font of information.
SwimKid was a reapply. Applied to 3 schools in the first round and was waitlisted. Applied to same 3 (and others) in round 2 and was accepted at 2/3. He did apply as a repeat though.
I was waitlisted by one school last year and got accepted to three schools (including the one I had been waitlisted by) as a 10th grader this year (not a repeat).
Daughter applied to 6 first time - got into 2 - decided to stay at JBS. Applied to 11 second time and got accepted into 10. YES - apply.
Plenty of people reapply, plenty of people get accepted as reapplicants. Do not simmer in the misconception that being a reapplicant lowers or boosts your chances.
I was a reapplicant and got accepted. If you are able to, and want to, go for it!
@skieurope didn’t mention that I was actually waitlisted the third time around before being admitted
A year is a very long time in the life of a 14 year old.
At some schools, the 10th grade class is larger than the 9th grade, to accommodate new students (my daughter was one of them, and a reapplicant after being waitlisted for 9th grade). it is very reasonable to reapply anywhere you were waitlisted. You or a parent might want to call and discuss the situation (we did not but probably would have if we were less intimidated by the whole process ).
Thank you guys all so much for responding and giving me such kind advice. I’ve decided to reapply to the 4 schools that waitlisted me. @twinsmama when you say call, do you mean call the school and inform them?
I personally dont think having your parents call the school to discuss has any value. Just start the application process again. You can discuss this when you re interview and in many school’s application documents there is a box asking if you have applied before. I think you could write a short email to the admissions officer just stating you were disappointed to be WL’d but you plan to reapply and if he/she can offer any suggestions you would be most appreciative
@sword140 I meant maybe asking about whether there were specific things you could improve…or even a parent feeling out whether it was worthwhile to reapply. I didn’t do it, but I might have if I had known my daughter would get the cold shoulder when she revisited one school.
