i got rejected from groton
as a day student, so i know
it will be harder to get in for
sophomore year. even harder
to get in as a day student regularly.
i'm going to a private day school, and
everyone i know who goes there loves
it. should i reapply to groton next year
and deal with the awkwardness from the
teacher recommendations and the unlikliness
of being accepted and reapply to a school
i really love? or should i stick it out with
my day school and get over this prep
school fantasy?
thanks! (:

If I were you I would give your day school a chance, and if you are not happy with the fall, apply to schools that are similar to Groton, but slightly different like Loomis, Deerfield, maybe Choate. My experience is that once a school decides against you, it is extremely difficult to convince the admissions department that you have matured signifcantly or changed in a substantive way. So enjoy the spring, summer and early fall and do some self-examination to see if you prefer to stay or apply to BS.

I am a new student at a private day school this year and it wasn’t awkward asking for recommendations, just try to make it as casual as possible and say that you still love the school that you’re going to, etc.

yeah dude, you should most definitely give this prep school a chance. After a few months there, If you TRULY think you will excel more at Groton, Go for it.

definitely do it
i got rejected the first time and applied back to the same grade
i’ve never regretted my decision
just suck it up and ask for the recommendations

You can (or maybe easier if it’s your parents) ask to meet briefly with the person who interviewed you and find out if they have any suggestions about what you might do to strengthen an application for next year. As long as you make it clear that you aren’t going to complain or argue with their decision, you can get good information this way and it maintains a relationship with someone in admission as well as underscoring how committed you are.

thank you guys!
and i don’t know if
anyone remembers, but
my parents don’t want
me at boarding school,
but i might try to convince
them if i can at least apply,
and see whether or not i get in.

Well, give the day-school a chance.
But in the end, your parent’s word IS law.

actually at most schools getting in as a sophomore day student is much easier. Andover the acceptance rate for sophomore day students is like 43% while regular admissions is like 20%.

hmm, thanks for the helpful
statistic manofthepeople!
