Reapplying as a Freshman

What do you think about reapplying as a freshman applicant after a semester at college? Yes, I realize that, economically, it isn't a wise decision, but do you think that it could have some benefit as opposed to applying as a transfer student?

With a semester of good grades from a reputable college, I think that it will help supplement my mediocre SAT/ACT score. I also think that I have matured and finally discovered what I really want from a college and I am interested in restarting as a Freshman.

Have you heard of anyone doing this?

it depends on what college you want to apply to...some have higher transfer rates than freshman rates...some will still look at SATs, especially if you're applying as a freshman...i'd ask individual admission offices for their advice, as you still might be a trasnfer

I thought about the same thing, but I don't think that you can re-apply as a freshman. Most of the websites say that if you are already enrolled in college and if you will have completed one year of coursework at the time of matriculation, you are considered a transfer.

Most will consider you a transfer, as previously stated by Jimmy, but certain colleges will allwo you to apply as a freshman (NYU) if you have not declared a major or if you have completed less than a certain amount of credits, generally twelve.

If you have only had a couple of semesters( one or two) I know that Yale allows you to voluntarily relinquish your credits, and you can apply as a freshman.. dont know a lot about the other schools really..

Seriously.... bad idea. Why would you want to go through 5 years of college?

If you really want to apply as a freshman, then DO NOT enroll for next semester under any circumstances.... you need to have less than a year's worth of academic credits in order to be considered as a freshman.

Like the above posters said- compare the transfer/freshmen acceptance rates... for example, Brown is more transfer friendly than freshman friendly. Yale is the other way around.

if you go to a CSU or UC then you can only apply if you have ZERO college units or if you have between 60 and 90... so as soon as you take one class at the college level then they wont even look at your applicaiton until you have 60 semester units.
