I am currently attending a community college and am in the process of applying to Temple University as a transfer student. I applied to Temple out of high school and was accepted, but decided not to go, to technically i am re-applying. My question is whether or not it would be ok to use the same essay/personal statement this time around as I used in my first application. The essay is well written and I beleive distinguishes me from most other candidates. If they have a record of my first essay and notice that it is the same essay would this hurt my chances of acceptance? Could this somehow be considered plagiarism? Keep in mind I wrote this essay myself it is totally original and is still very relevant to my personality.

Why would it be plagiarism if you wrote it?

what i mean is would it be treated as plagiarism. the question at hand is would submitting the same essay on two different applications to the same school be considered dishonest, or could it in any way hurt my chances of acceptance more than help them. thank you

I really dont think our admissions would care or even know.

why not add a line to the end of the essay stating: “I applied with the same essay in 2009 and was admitted.” This way, there is no chance the same admissions officer will read your essay and think that it sounds familiar - without knowing why- and there is no chance he/she will assume that two different people submitted the same essay in two different years. If there is any way that you can take this essay and improve it a bit, that would be even better.

They are making you resend that. I thought that once you were accepted to a school your file remains open for about a year or so. And pretty much all you have to is resend your application, no fee and college transcript.

Then again different schools, different policies.

it may be true that some schools do not require readmission for a certain period of time but i was admitted to attend in the fall of 2007 so i am fairly sure that i need to reapply. however if anyone knows differently please let me know!
