<p>I'm currently on a gap year and will matriculate at duke next fall. However, am i allowed to apply to other universities, better ones, during my gap year? Some of my friends have been telling me that if duke found out, they might rescind my admission. is this true?</p>

<p>If you are no longer interested in attending Duke then you need to let them know as soon as possible. After you let them know you can apply to other schools.</p>
<p>If however you want to hold on to Duke as an option in case as part of the reapplication process you don’t find anything better then what you would be doing is unethical. My sense is that you know that.</p>
<p>Think of the situation in terms of its ethics, and assume that Duke is also thinking of it in those terms. Then you’ll do the right thing.</p>
