Hello,
I recently got into a PhD program that was my number #1 choice. However, lack of funding in the program is making me think about my final decision. To be honest, I have a current job that if I work for another year and save well, it’ll go quite a long ways so I was kind of thinking about turning it down this year, and reapplying next year.
I wanted to know what my chances are to get in again next year, or will the university see my name and reject me because they don’t think i’ll take a spot again?
You can request a deferral for a year. Most universities will do that for you particularly if they are not offering financial support. However, you need to seriously consider whether entering a Ph.D. program without funding is a good idea. These studies take 5 or more years and that is a huge financial burden. You do not way what discipline you are studying but if it is STEM, you really should not attend without full financial support.
Thanks, I looked over their website for a deferral information, but I couldn’t find any. Would I just e-mail the program coordinator for information on that?
