I am an international Student. I applied to few colleges in the U.S. this year, but was rejected. Even if I were accepted, I would have deferred a year anyways, because I was planning for a gap year. So I still have the option of re-applying as a freshman to some Colleges that rejected me this year. I am currently working to support my family, and at the same time doing some short courses on various subjects such computer programming etc. I also plan to retake the SAT later this year. Anyone who has been accepted after reapplying, or anyone who is planning to re-apply is most welcome to post over here. Besides, any tips on how to enhance chances, or approach the application process will be much appreciated.

There's many threads on gap years. Just search around. :)

BTW will I be at a significant disadvantage at some colleges because I have been rejected once?

It depends on how well you use your gap year. If you sit around watching tv, no, if you do something worthwhile (like your working and courses), I don't think it has a significant adverse affect. But at the same time, your chances don't really increase either.
