Reapplying while on Gap Year/Deferred Admission

I’m currently on a gap year, and deferred from Emory last year. Over the gap year, I’ve realized that I’m not sure if Emory is the right fit for me for a multitude of reasons. Am I allowed to apply elsewhere during my gap year?

I figure that I’ll lose my enrollment deposit if I do go elsewhere, but don’t want to run the risk of having my offer at Emory revoked and then nowhere to go.

Here’s Emory’s deferral policy:

  1. Deferred admission may be granted to admitted students who have paid the required non-refundable enrollment deposit.
  2. Deferred students may not enroll in another college or university as degree seeking. A deferred student who enrolls in another institution as degree seeking during the deferral period will forfeit the deferred admission status and the enrollment deposit.
  3. Deferred students must submit a final high school transcript and/or other appropriate academic transcripts.

Any advice would be appreciated!

You are free to apply elsewhere. If accepted elsewhere then attend that college. You will lose your deposit at Emory. Just notify Emory that you will not be enrolling next September.

I am also on a gap year, and when I deferred, my college (not emory) had me sign a document saying that I would not enroll in any other schools nor apply to any other schools (if I did my offer would be revoked). However, if Emory has not made a stipulation like that clear, I would not think that it would be an issue
