I know it may be a bit to soon to be thinking about this, but I will be reapplying to noarding schools nex year. I'm having trouble deciding whether to apply to any of the schools that waitlisted/rejected me yesterday. What would you suggest?

Have you thought about contacting a few schools that have rolling admissions?

Yes I have, but I think I want to take a rest from the anxious waiting game, and enjoy the rest of this year. Next year I’ll be a stronger, better applicant having been through this before.

Okay, then I would suggest possibly reapplying to the schools that wait-listed you. It will show tenacity and determination… :)

Okay, thanks :)

But also apply to many other schools that have not seen you before. There is a lot to be said about “reapplying” to the same schools but from personal experience and the experience of other parents that has not resulted in a “win” the second year. In fact, a lot of students who were waitlisted last year have been declined this year.

The old rules for what works or doesn’t work seems to have been turned on its head. Make sure your list is broader to give yourself more chances.

Thanks, I already have PLENTY of schools I would like to apply to that haven’t seen me before, this thread was mainly to ask if I should consider applying to the schools that rejected or waitlisted me.

Last year, i didnt get in to any of the boarding schools I applied to (Andover, Groton, Concord, Exeter, Choate) I reapplied this year, got in to all 6 I applied to (Andover, Exeter, Choate, Deerfield, Concord) One year can really make a difference and reapplying is encouraged. Just show that you are some what changed from the year before, citing an experience from the past year that has changed your perspective, but be honest.

Thank you prowrest, I hope to be in your position next year :)

prowrest, what school are you choosing? what grade did you apply for? are you doing a repeated year?

ExieMITAlum: “from personal experience and the experience of other parents that has not resulted in a “win” the second year. In fact, a lot of students who were waitlisted last year have been declined this year.” ← Yep. From my three reapplied schools, 1 waitlist, 1 rejection, and 1 still waiting for a notification. BUT there are also inspiration stories like prowrest and mountainhiker’s kid (story in another thread) so I completely encourage reapplying! Even to the schools that rejected you if you really like that school and feel it is a good fit. :D

aaralyn that is very true i just got rejected this year after being waitlisted last year by groton

Shinelikemystar,I have not chosen a school yet but it is btween andover and exeter. I applied lst year as an 8th grader for 9th. This year I applied as a 9th grader for 10th. So no, I am not repeating
