Would the lack of diversity at your current school be a valid reason to transfer?

I'm trying hard in my essay not to throw my current school under the bus so I don't know if that is a good reason or not. Thanks

If you feel that the lack of diversity is affecting your needs and goals, then definitely elaborate.

It depends in what way; you need to elaborate a little more on exactly how your school lacks diversity before I can say whether or not it’s a good topic.

Don’t say that your current school lacks diversity per se, but something along hte lines of “I value the diversity at X Unversity, something that I feel would add greatly to my education”

Say that your current school does not have diversity without painting that school in a negative light.

Yeah, the tough part is to not make the current school look bad. I tried to say diverse ideas would enhance my learning experience. I am a minority and go to a school that is almost 80% Caucasian and at times it’s just weird to be where I am.

Saying that it’s, “just weird to be where I am,” is too general. If your issue is more a vague feeling of uneasiness you get from being around White people, that’s not good enough. If on the other hand your school’s ethnic profile is a problem because few people can sympathize with your problems, or because you feel that you’re somehow being socially ostracized because of your race, then that’s better. Right now you need to focus on specifics, because your current diversity issues, though perfectly understandable, are a little too vague.

It’s enough to want to leave, but not enough to want to go somewhere specific. Insofar as universities/colleges are in the business of selling academic degrees, your essay must hinge on academic objectives/issues. (Otherwise, you’d have no case and could simply transfer anywhere.)

Obviously my essay is not going to solely hinge on just this facet. Out of my reasons, this is just one of them and no I did not put it is just weird to be here, just a colloquial way of putting it. It’s not even a problem about so many white people, I just expected more of a diverse experience out of high school. Bad research on my part I guess. The way I am going about it is it would help to be around a more diverse campus from the ideas and culture and tying that in with my future and professional goals.
