So I got a letter from Engineering Honors awarding me 10K/year for 4 years. I'm majoring Electrical Eng.

Problem is, the scholarship has to be renewed each year, and renewal is contingent upon me maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher.

Now I know that Engineering is difficult, and the average for Cockerell is a 2.58 GPA. My question is (posed towards current students/graduates) do y'all think it's possible to exceed 3.5? Do you know anyone who's done it, especially in Electrical?

I’ve seen you around! I’m doing electrical engineering too and I’m interested in knowing this as well. I will just say that I think if you were good enough to be offered such a high scholarship (in your freshman year no less), you are very capable of getting a 3.5+. :)

Is it possible? Of course. This is honestly a silly question. Many people graduate from EE with much higher than a 3.5 and the fact that you got 10k/year in scholarship tells me that you probably have a good chance of doing the same. Unless things have changed over the past couple years, these scholarships are handed out according to merit. 10k/year is pretty much as high as it gets which means your application was probably about as good as it gets. Relax, you’ll probably get a 4.0 freshman year. Pretty much all of my friends in EE EHP did.

Alright, thanks for the reassurance guys :)

I’ve just been seeing post after post about how engineering majors are lucky to get a 3.3 and such, and if I don’t keep this scholarship, I’m screwed.

xcloudy, maybe I’ll see you around. :D

and frever, thanks for the info. I just needed to know that it’s possible. Are you in EHP?

yeah if you qualified for that scholarship…you probably have the brains to make at least a 3.5

considering that with the scholarship and grants(assuming you got at least a small grant)
you won’t have to work to pay for rent and food and other expenses…you should be fine

i know people who work fridays and saturdays and still maintain a 3.5 with a full semester

your worst enemy will be yourself…make sure you don’t chill/party/slack/procrastinate too much
