I've gotten stuck in the common dilemma of compiling good target/safety schools. I am a senior, in California. My UW GPA is 3.837 and weighted junior year GPA was 4.3-4.4ish. SAT-wise I scored CR 680, Math 800, Writing 770; Math II 800, Physics 650 (bombed). While I want to apply undecided I am interested in mathematics/statistics, psychology, and finance.

My favorite at the moment is Cal, but I understand it's a reach. USC has also been ramping up, so it seems a risky target. What can you all recommend in/out of California as shoo-in safeties, "pretty much" safeties, and targets? Disregard extracurriculars for now if possible.

Looking forward to read what everyone's got, thanks

California is so pre 1980’s
how about venturing out.
drake university
butler university
muhlenberg college
washington and jefferson
university of evansville
rollins college

I have nothing against venturing out, hence “in/out of California.” Good list though, thanks zobroward.

Great question mom2collegekids - as I understand it my EFC will be super low, thus I should be able to afford anywhere that will meet most of demonstrated need (100% being ideal.) If it matters I’ll probably be a National Merit finalist too, which may get award money involved. Correct me if I’m wrong please

If you apply to the rest of the UCs, you’ll find some likelies in the ones that are less selective than Berkeley, Los Angeles, and San Diego.?

Note, however, that most out-of-state public schools will not meet need for out-of-state students. Virginia and North Carolina may be exceptions. Among private schools, meeting need is generally correlated with increasing selectivity, though less selective ones are more likely to offer big merit.

Try the net price calculators at each school’s web site.
