reasonable transportation?

so i need to drop by glendale tomorrow. it's only about 20 miles away. however, MTA tells me that it will be OVER 2 HOURS ONE WAY. uh. could someone tell me a faster way? and generally the best methods of transportation to use to get around town? it seems to me that the busses are unacceptably slow. I also wanted to go to some nearby malls. and how do kids without cars get around town with these crazy bus trip times?

SM8 or SM12 to get to Westside Pavillion. Wait near Ackerman Union to catch the bus. It should take 10-15 minutes or so.

that's good. is their any place/thread/site that has a comprehensive guide to the best UCLA transportation? thanks

on that note... anyone ever taken the bus to union station? and happen to know what line to use?
i keep getting confused by bus maps :(

it's pretty confusing, depending on when you take the bus. i don't believe the 720 goes to union (i could be wrong), but the commuter 534 does, i believe. in any case, you can take the 20 or 21 to 7th street station and take the red line to union, which i've done a few times.

:/ it took my friend over an hour to come here from glendale by car

big blue bus 8 & 12 also takes you to westside pavillion
big blue bus 1, 2, & 8 takes you to third st promenade & santa monica place

I don't know if this is the shortest way:

Take Bus 2 (LeConte and Westwood) and get off at Wilshire-Vermont stop. Cross the street, hop on the Red Line until you reach the end.

Takes about 60-90 minutes depending on time of day.

thanks bfired and boelter! :)

thats most of us only stick around west la/santa monica
