Hi, could those who applied to WashU tell me the reason why you chose WashU? Thanks!

I am thinking someone needs an idea for an essay.

do you really need to post something to get reasons?

top programs, gorgeous campus, forest park, st. louis...basically an intellectual and ascetically pleasing haven of knowledge?

No, this isn't for an essay. I just want to see what students like about Washu U in order to make up my mind on whether I should apply.

frutiaspice, if you are first starting this process, I highly recommend that you read through the Fiske Guide (or any other college guide you prefer). It will give you a general sense of most schools as well as whether you are within the SAT/ACT range for admissions.

If you have a more specific question about WashU, I'm sure that people on this site will be glad to answer it.

Go visit the school this summer. Talk to admissions. See if you fit in.

If your stats are in the upper echelon, and I mean truly the upper echelon, then you have shot. If you want to compare it to other schools you need to visit all of those schools and see for yourself.

One persons heaven is another person's hell. It was a superb fit for us, but we didnt get in. So it goes.

Good luck.

Apply because it is an excellent school!

We had never heard of Wash U but they had an information session in a hotel in the city where we were living just when daughter was beginning to think about college - I think fall of sophmore year. We went and we were all impressed - the rep stressed lots and lots of advisors and guidance, you don't get shut out of classes, lots of flexibility - you can change majors and do double majors in different schools (unlike for example NYU where this is very hard). It seemed very nurturing, professors are also supposed to be very accessible which was important to us. Then we also heard good things about the student body - nice, down-to-earth, not too competitive. But you should check it out - it's important to try to visit anyway if you want to get in.

thanks for the replies

The reason I applied was because I got a hefty amount of mail...and grr. Got wait-listed- so ANNOYED. My parents were flabbergasted...my mother is still in shock. Life goes on- I believe my two points of wait-listment were my hard-to-understand essay and my annoying ACT blip. Never shalt I send my ACT again!

That sucks. But I hear WashU waitlists a lot of people but also takes many people off from the waitlist.
