Reasons to buy a Mac?

It's "slightly" more expensive for quite limited price ranges. For other price ranges, it can even $1000 more expensive. The thing is, you can't compare Apple to just one company since it's against the entire PC market.

its just plain fun. The thing about a computer is that you will have to be staring at it for a long long time, so you might as well get something that is aesthetically pleasing. This might sound a little weird, but the mac is full of those "little things" that make its users really love it.

and unlike PC, you rarely get those urges to throttle it.

Theres no need to buy a Mac. It's just a social trend.

Get a linux pc/laptop. But yeah, you probably won't be able to manage it, and I never recommend Windows.

Get the mac.

Get the Linux pc/laptop. Macs are for the weak.

The Mac social trend has legs, now into its 23rd year. Macs are for those (weak or strong) who don't want a weak computer.

I bet most of these people who said no reason to get a mac haven't even tried one.

Dude, i have tried one, and they are weak sauce....I am not going to get into it here but in another thread i already wrote about what makes other OS better than Macs

I just got a macbook 3 days ago for college and love it! i had originally wanted the macbook pro but realized that it had features I didn't need and it was way too expensive. macbooks cost the same as a decent pc laptop and are just as easy to use. plus when you buy one you get a free ipod and printer. not a bad deal if you ask me.

With the free iPod and printer, my MacBook ended up cheaper than any PC laptop would have cost me.

I was in the same situation. I didn't know whether I wanted PC or mac. Well, I finally decided I was sick of Windows OS- it always crashed, it's very virus-prone, it's hard to keep organized, and it just doesn't WORK!

I'm on my MacBook right now. Wifi has never been easier, the processor is amazing, it can do a lot of things at once, you can still use Microsoft office, and customer support is great. Plus, it looks a lot cooler! Built-in webcam/still camera, optional bluetooth keyboard and mouse (good investments!). Long battery life (close to 4 hours). I was hesitant at first but really, my Macbook does things FOR me that I had to do myself on windows! It organizes my pictures and files much better.

Switching was much easier than I thought it would be, too.

PC users must think we Mac users are weird; how can anyone love a computer? It's like having kids; you just don't understand how they're such a joy until you have them. Well, we Mac users understand. We old-time hackers are even happier, now that Mac runs Unix under the hood, and we're rid of that old MACINTOSH acronym: Most Applications Crash; If Not, The Operating System Hangs. No more! :)

We think you're weird because you're so incredibly smug and obsessed with a computer you payed double what you should have for.

Haha smug, its like that south park episode with the hybrid cars... heh

My biggest beef with OSX is the lack of available software. It doesn't have nearly the number of applications that can run on windows, yet it does not have the open source software thats available on linux, another UNIX-based operating system. Its good for everyday use, but it seems so limited and crippled.

*paid.

I'm an idiot

All the Macs Apple now makes (they're all Intel-based) also run Windows, both at boot time and in parallel, so the software issue is a thing of the past. Recent comparisons show Macs now cheaper than HP or Dell PCs, but off-brand PCs are indeed cheaper than Macs.

Randomly, Anyone who says macs don't crash is plain wrong. I had a professor try to use one for a presentation don't know if he was using PowerPoint or Open Office, and when he went to show the presentation in full screen the computer crashed and had to be restarted. With that said, macs are still good, well built computers and I will probably consider one when it is time for me to buy an new computer.

I can assure you macs crash less than HP, Dell, and any other similarly-priced brand.

now my IBM Thinkpad on the other hand... back when a Thinkpad and a Mac were the same price, I bought the Thinkpad (which IMO is still better). now that the Mac is a lot cheaper, though...

incidentally until September 15, if you buy a MacBook or MacBook Pro, you get a $200 rebate on iPod (or iPod nano) if you order as a student in the Apple Store online.

don't get a mac... Most of the money that you pay for them goes into the design, not the actual computer itself. Plus, hard to find software for it, both online and in stores

That linked article on Macs being cheaper is complete BS. Configure an Inspiron E1520 to the same specs of a Macbook Pro and just see the huge price difference (when I did it like 2 weeks ago it was about $800).
