MacBook Pro has an expandable card slot, the macbook does not.

Toxic Waste, didn't you recommend notebookreview.com to someone? If you ever read the site, you would understand what i am talking about

Oh, there's one other interesting piece of hardware out...

huh. that's interesting. when did these things come out?

Very recently, it seems.

They still aren't cheap enough to be useful for most people, but it looks like the era of upgradeable notebook video cards is on the horizon!

they arent to expensive. The first option you posted costs $100-$200 over the actual cost of the gpu. Not bad as it is a one time purchase

Yeah, but that's a less powerful GPU than the MBPs already have, from what I've read. I think what'll be more interesting is when enclosures become cheap enough that you can just keep upgrading actual video cards.

UCLAri, you're good with Macs...just something i have noticed :)

Thanks...I think?

Are you stalking me?

Yes, note how Ari's posts are more WYSIWYG, the fonts look so much better than those posted with a PC, and the posts crash much less often. Plus, I don't think I've ever gotten a virus from Ari's posts.

the asustek xg station is upgradable. That is the whole point. Any pci-e card can be used in the unit.

I didn't think that was the case...huh. I'll look more into that thing. I also read it's limited to PCIe x1, but that may not be the case.

Oh how I love the misinformation of the interweb...

It is a desktop gpu in an enclosure, and it can't be upgraded?

Taken as the above was sarcasm, i will have to counter a say it certainly can be upgraded

A 2nd generation version should be coming out soon (supposedly) that will allow for multiple bands, how many, who knows.

That's pretty sweet! I'll definitely bet on Engadget being right. Sometimes, the interweb doesn't screw the pooch.

pictures speak a thousand words.

In the picture we can see
A. A GPU with x16 interface
B. A GPU that is sold for desktop use
C. A circut board with a x16 slot

The fact that they arent using all 16 parallels means nothing right now as this is a first. They will soon progess to using the full 4gigs + of bandwidth

Common sense would tell us that we should than "theoretically" be able to use a card fitting the previous 3 descriptions. But beware, this is an amazingly complicated and dangerous procedure. I headily warn anyone to be very cautious, very cautious, and need i say again, be very cautious.
