I was admitted to SEAS and other engineering/computer science programs at other universities. I like Penn since it’s in my hometown. However, many of my friends suggested me go other places with higher ranking. Other than the Ivy prestige and #1 business program, is other any other reason I should consider? I really like to stay near home. Any current SEAS (especially in CS/EE) student can help? Thanks in advance.

I would like to know too. Thanks!

cause penn is awesome?

Yes, but why should we choose to attend SEAS at Penn when compared with engineering programs at other schools? Is Penn really good at engineering? Can you get a double degree with Wharton, if you originally applied for and were accepted to SEAS?

dual degrees need to be applied for -based on gpa i think

SEAS might not be ranked top in the country, but it does have a very good engineering department and is mostly underranked becaues of our relativly small size..

If you guys have any specific questions about SEAS feel free to email me at vpandabear@gmail.com or AIM at VBPandaBear

And on the dual: yes, it's possible, it's a lot of credits and you need a 3.6 or so to get in (after your freshman year). A lot of people do it though so you certainly won't be alone

i heard from someone that seas is actually really good for engineering. SEAS may not be ranked as high as other engineering programs, but I guess all the kids in it are brilliant and the profs are amazing. Dual/joint degree programs are incredible too, but really tough to get into. I think around 25% of the people in SEAS are in joint or dual degree. Also, all over the east coast, firms really like to hire penn engineers

is anyone in seas that knows what the people are like in it? Im really worried that all of seas is gonna be nerdy foreign kids who never have any fun, and would spend friday night at a library than at a frat party. Also, is it possible to have a life in engineering? I keep hearing how hard it is, so I'm really worried about not being able to go out and spending all my weekends doing problem sets...

I heard the average GPA for SEAS freshman is 2.8. This looks tough. Is this true? How about sophomore's?

Thanks.

people on the east coast like engineers from penn? what about MIT or even Carnegie Mellon

soloboe, surely you aren't naive enough to believe that companies don't like hiring MIT and CMU engineers.

how is seas at penn compared to engineering at cmu?

I have to decide between cmu and penn for engineering. Can anyone please help me?

What is your intented major?

if you need more convincing (to go) lol, then you don't deserve to go... that's how it should be...

i'm jk, both are great schools, but i think u know which is better...

I am between electrical engineering or mechanical engineering. I really want to go to penn but I have some doubts since it is ranked lower than cmu, johns hopkins and other colleges i got in.

if you're going by news week rankings... don't rely on those

I chose Penn over CMU (for CS...) and haven't regretted my decision for one minute.. I absolutely love penn, and especially if you're concerned about the people in the department, go with Penn.. Any engineering department is going to have an overly high portion of nerdy, introverted people.. At Penn, it's no different really, but you also have the other 3 schools to help balance everything out.. I only have 1 or 2 friends that are in engineering.. almost everyone else is in the College :)

The best part about Penn, or so I perceive, is that the kids who attend and graduate are WELL ROUNDED and companies love that ... especially students who take the initiative to take Wharton classes.

I'm a CSE major. Well, DMD, which is CSE plus a bunch of other nifty stuff. CSE is hard here, very challenging. It's definitely a strong department though. We've got a lot of nifty technology and stuff...but the first year of CSE, in which you'd take 120 and 121, just suck. But that's just to weed out people, apparently. Supposedly it gets better. But the point is, we have a good CSE department. My best friend is at CMU for ECE, but he has to take programming as well---i think the stuff we do is much harder.
