Reasons why...Phillips Academy Andover

Let's be optimistic in a rational way...Post legitimate reasons why a package from Phillips Academy Andover didn't arrive at your house today.
I'll start.

Rejection/Waitlisted

It got caught in a storm or something on the way to New York

There is no other reason. I too didn’t receive a package. I’m not trying to be mean or insensitive, but since we didn’t receive it yet, we have obviously been waitlisted or rejected. I also got waitlisted in exeter, and those are the only 2 main school I applied to (besides my 1 safety school.) =(

So…

 1. Rejection/Waitlisted
 2. Weather issues
 3. Delivered to the wrong house

I like number 2 and 3. Too bad it’s number 1.

Yeah… =(

we’ll seeeeeeeeee. :)

Even if it’s a waitlist, remember, people DO get off that waitlist!!

You are very right!!

depending on which grade you applied to…
do you guys mind if i ask which region you live in? (only the people who haven’t heard from Andover)

Ohio. 10char

Midwest area.

I don’t know if you applied for day or boarding, but as a day student I have a hope (though most likely false and more of a self-denial than a truthful hope) that they did not send packages to accepted day students today. Rather, boarding applicants receive packages today and day students tomorrow.

A second wave of packages are being sent out tonight along with all of the waitlist/rejection letters

If anybody wants to make some sort of mathematical conclusion, find out what number/% of CCers had an acceptance according to the Master List last year at this exact time versus the number/% of CCers having an acceptance according to the Master List this year. This is just an idea…obviously if the percentages are similar then that potentially means the acceptance packages have all been mailed out already :(

On another note, I wonder why Andover decided to delay a day to send out the rejection and waitlist letters when in years past the rejection and waitlist letters have arrived along with the acceptance letters on March 10th. The fact that this clearly shows Andover changed the way it notified applicants compared to last years gives me the idea that that may not be the only change in how it applicants are being notified this year (perhaps the change being another wave of packages as previously mentioned)

The wave of packages seems reasonable.

Despite the fact that I do think it’s #1, I got accepted to Groton, which was one of my top choices, and I’m very happy. C:

skisoccer, im pretty sure Andover acceptances have always arrived March 10 while wait lists and rejections arrived march 11- 13.

@sjc, I understand why you would think that. Last year, I received my wait list letter form Andover in the mail on March 10 and this year I simply did not. I know that is not a basis for the judgment for an applicant pool, but literally nobody else on this board has received a waitlist/rejection letter in the mail when in past years the majority did receive on March 10 (11th-13th were for other regions in the U.S. for the most part if I recall)

although reason 1 seems like it, i do have to say that the number of people from CC who got accepted to andover seems fewer than the previous members of CC.
then again, it’s just an observation and i didn’t actually do any math to calculate it.

I live like 20 minutes away from Andover and have not received ANYTHING yet. I would have definitely received anything if they sent out my decision today. I’m assuming they are holding out for some reason. Last year I received my rejection on March 10th, so Andover apparently changed their mailing policies.

The possibility of a change of mailing policies seems about right.
Also, which grades did you guys apply to (those who haven’t recieved a decision)?

Applied to 11th grade originally, but indicated on my application I would prefer to apply as a repeat. So I’m applying for 10th grade!
