how important is demonstrating academic "need" for Cornell transfers?

I think it is perhaps the most important factor in nearly all elite-school transfer programs.

so then how come it's supposed to be answered with short-answer?

Since when is the length of space given for explanitory purposes a determinate measure in how much a factor is weighed?

On most college essays, you are limited to one page (for Rice it is three), does this mean that the essay is the most important part of the application?

I think not.

ya but my issue is saying everything i want to say with limited space and if the essay is important i want be able to say everything... also in terms of style, was it strictly reasons?

I did not apply to Cornell, so my stylistic properties will not help; however, on the applications where sufficient space was not available, I included a supplement.

Edit: By the way, has the Cornell deadline not passed yet? I thought it was March 1st.

Cornell deadline is March 15th

I believe that Cornell allows you to attach one additional page for both questions, using 12 point font. It's possible to cram up to 1000 words to such a page.

1000 words is going to be tough to fit in one page even with 12 font and single spacing.

I just finished both the first two short answer questions and the big essay for Cornell. What I find ironic is, my short answer is actually longer than the essay (i answered both questions (or i think i did) in one combined "essay"). My essay is 499 words (little less than a page) and my short answer is 690 words (a little over a page)... Is this bad?

Still need to do the activity essay.. does anyone know how long usually this is? I always thought it's like a paragraph, but it seems we are given the space for nearly 500 words there. Geez...

hint hint: margin.

My essays are near 1400 characters each and 4900 characters for the Stanford one. (They have really generous limits)

My $0.02:
If you're going to say something, and as long as you know you've made an honest effort not to be redundant, send the whole thing. Don't worry if it's many words over, as long as you come across like you want to. Work the margins, too.

what's the activity essay?

short answer rather
it asks for significant activity, how long did you write for?

i wrote in the space provided on form 2H

I cramed 300 words into that 2H space.
