Reasons

I'm stealing this off of the college discussions.

What were the strangest/funniest/weirdest reasons you decided to/not to apply to certain boarding schools?

(For example, on the college page, many people didn't apply to Colgate because it reminded them too much of toothpaste, or DID apply to a school because the brochure had a mermaid on the cover of it)

:]

I did not apply to deerfield because it reminded me of deer, and fields, and fields of deer. Plus I thought the name sounded weird. Same reason I did not apply to Choate. I could not imagine myself being called a Choatian or a deerfoldian or whatever they call themselves. That being said a Kissie does not sound that much better.

SAme reason I am definitely applying to prince - and hoping to God i get in. because who wouldn't want to call your self a prince ... okay fine a Princetonian same thing.

Me: So who are you ?

Some random British aristocrat: Well I am Lord Shuberry's son, Duke of York, and a proud Oxonian.

Me: Wow! That's cool I suppose .... Well I am a Prince ..... Well, a Princetonian anyways!

LOL! I almost didn't even look INTO Choate because I couldn't determine the pronunciation. "Ch-Oat" or "Cho-Ate", haha.

I did apply to Hotchkiss because the name sounded like Hot kiss, VERY suggestive.

Exeter sounded like X eter as in X Move On ! Plus I would not want to be marked with a huge x on my back for the rest of my life.

Andover sounded like AND [it's] Over - not very pleasant eh ?

I did not apply to Middlesex because well I did not want to have a mediocre sex life .. Plus I am a proud male its not like i'm constantly torn as to which sex i belong to.

lol.
at first, i only looked at schools that ended in academy. i thought it sounded more professional, lol. however, i applied to two schools that don't end in academy now so i guess that's fixed.
people from choate are called choaties, and people from deerfield are deerfieldians. if you look either of the names up on urban dictionary, you'll see the hatred between the two groups. i almost deicded not to apply because of that, lol.
i wouldn't apply to an all girls school either, it'd feel pretty.. weird, i guess.
and i'm a devout athiest, so i wouldn't apply to anything with st. in the name, or that was religious.
also, i wouldn't apply to any schools that had lower schools, mostly kids seem to hate me (or at least my siblings, lol)
and lol kaf, i thought that about hotchkiss as well. on another thread it says something about screwing it hotchkiss style. as for andover, yeah that's is very pleasant. middlesex makes me think of -excuse spelling- hermaphrodites. no offence if you go there, of course.

I'm sure most of you know the story of The Governor's School, which was called Governor Dummer after a real life Massachusetts Bay Lieutenant Governor William Dummer. The school recently changed its name omitting the name of its original benefactor.
GREAT school btw!

I applied because of websites. XD

Yeah.

Choate's website was pretty and calming, all blue with gorgeous pictures, and tons of info. Deerfield's was really, really basic with barely any info. St. Paul's was kind of the same, but I kept clicking links and getting something religious-y... No thanks, even though I AM Episcopalian.

Andover... was because of Exeter and their rivalry. XD Wanted to see which of the rivals would want me. If either.

first I was hesitant of Middlesex because unlike kaf, I thought of a lesser-mature (or more, i guess you could say -_-) wordplay of mx. I'm still hesitant of talking about middlesex in public places because no matter what asian country you're in.. everybody understands what the word "sex" means and definitely WILL ostracize you solely from saying it (then again I don't get why I'd care about being ostracized by strangers)

I was wrong, I'm glad I realized that. I loveee mx.

Aside from the fact I didn't like a large school, I didn't like Exeter because it was too math-reputed and because to me, it sounded like "executioner."

groton sounded like a milk ad for some reason, but I ended up applying anyways because i lovee groton (actually, I thought of the milk ad thing when I thought the correct pronunciation was "grow ton")

I think the Hun School of Princeton will get a few double takes. It sure did with me. I mean, Hun school??? I immediately thought of the huge guys from Mulan, god. And I thought of bear fur coats and ugg boots on them LOL.

Lawrenceville reminded me of a town. Or a river. :D

(You know, this is fun. I know I'm not really keeping up with the topic, as I applied/did not apply to these schools not because of the name thing, but just because of how I evaluated the school. But Oh welllll)

One time I went to a very cheap shopping area (shopping in Asia is nothing like America; if you really want, "thrift stores" are "thrift markets/towns/cities" and they don't really sell tacky clothes anymore. at all.) and this store I really love going to sold "Hotchkiss Denim Jeans" Funn! And of course that Hotchkiss in itself really does sound like "hot kiss" (haha someone said this) And my parents keep thinking of the stapling company.

Choate Rosemary Hall (full name) reminded me of a CLASSIC colonial boarding school. I mean, schools rarely have the name "Hall" anymore, it just sounded that much more "colonial" to me for some reason. And I loved how Choate's one of the few/only schools that can be shortened to one syllable XD

Taft sounded too like "daft" to me. And it reminded me of Tufts University, so I thought it used to be a feeder school or something.

St Paul's reminded me of a very medieval themed school, and the first word I'd associate with the name would be "charming/enchanting." I think it's mainly because of the "St" part. Then again St. Mark's just reminded me of SMS (like messaging LOL)

Andover reminded me of a pidgeon. LOL.

how do you pronounce chaote?
(one reason i didn't apply... I couldn't pronounce its name)

I was gonna apply to Loomis,
but then I thought about how silly I would feel saying,
"Hi, I go to Loomis Chaffee School."
I guess its just the same of the school ;P

Choate- chote, ch (like chat) oa (like oh) te (tuh) Choate.

ok here goes:

deerfield: the brocure and website. all the formal clothing. and the all the girls had backpacks and wore them using both straps. come on, use on strap! and all the essence on a door. seriously? its a door.

exeter: friend who goes to andover, plus sounds like execute. plus uniforms and saturday classes?! i dont care how big your endowment is, dream on exies.

choate: when i told my friend about this, he thought i was talking about a certain male reproductive organ. a short one.

lville: went to summer camp and didnt really like the dorms much.

hun school of princeton: MULAN. plus, hun is known in my area as the place you go when andover and peddie chucks you out for ****ing on the deans cat. (true story!)

brooks school: my name sounds to much like it/ imagine being brooke from the brooks school?!

saint pauls: i got such a religious vibe. i am episcopal, but not that hardcore.

hotchkiss: the informational dvd from years ago that my sister had. it was intimidating. i feel as if the vibe was a little to smarty-pants for me.

awww as an animal rights person, the s*it on the deans cat is sad

yeah i know, he got thrown out big time. but not before i think throwing some of the furniture into a lake. i love crazy people stories, lol :)

wonder if the cat licked himself off.....

Every time I read your posts I shed a tear for the human race

ehhh watever, itd be funny though

Human feces in small, furry animal's mouth.

Hilarious

but saddd, very very sad

...........really Senay.. Really?
