Just look in the context of things; National-level things and more competitive things are higher up.

Patents would be akin to the research projects that are strewn about the 7’s, 8’s, 9’s and 10’s

It’s really a helpful list. Thanks loads.

I’ve witnessed in recent years a number of math/science contests emerging with names like Asian _______ Olympiad, e.g. Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO), Asian Pacific Mathematical Olympiad (APMO), etc. Do they share the same prestigious status with IMO/IPhO/IBO/IChO? As some Americans may also take apart in “Asian Pacific” contests, can anyone give some advice as to which category should they fall into?

The fact that doing 15 AP Exams (State Scholar) is equivalent to being near the top of the US in Physics (USAPHO) is seriously baffling; the former takes hard work and studying to take some standard tests, the latter takes years upon years of extremely high level problem solving that only a very small portion of the world can even comprehend…

IMHO State Scholar is overrated, should drop 2-3 ranks.

wow. this thread is just crazy. I’ve never even considered the possibility of a high school student publishing in Cell or Nature.

@Apollo11: Just curious…where would you rank State Chess Champion (among all adults) in this list?

I would say USAMO is definitely an 8, and possibly even a 9. USAMO IS the equivalent of a national finalist like USABO/USAChO/USAPhO/etc. Adding on the fact that USAMO and the IMO track is MUCH more difficult than the other science olympiads, I think USAMO and USABO/etc. finalists should be switched.
How is all-state music ranked so low? In Texas, less than 3 percent of kids who try out for any of the ensembles/choirs even make it in. I think it should be a 6 and in the same place as competing in a State Athletic Championship. Both require the same mindset, patience and effort.
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
I’m not sure why there was a need to open another thread for this, but as the last response before it was resurrect was last year, this is the one that will be closed.
