Rec Center

We have visited the campus twice but the Rec Center is not included on the tour. Is the rec center nice, what type of workout facilities are there and is there a swimming pool on campus anywhere?

A&M has a beautiful rec center. It has everything you can think such as indoor and outdoor pools, indoor soccer fields, rock climbing wall, basketball, indoor track, etc. You can read more about it here: [Student Recreation Center: Facilities & Hours: Rec Sports](http://recsports.tamu.edu/facilities/student_rec_center/) .
Since the Rec Center is located in West Campus, perhaps it was a time issue that it was not shown during your tours.

It is really amazing. I think you can stop in and look around anytime. There are intramural teams of all kinds. DS & his friends have all learned to love raquet ball and of course (they were hs soccer players) they love the indoor soccer.

Yes, but the students report that it’s very busy and hard to find a time to work out when it’s not massively crowded, but, yes, my S2 is very excited about going there too with all the good things we’ve heard about how impressive it is. He is used to working out at about three places here at home and knows he will face a challenge finding a good time when it’s not really crowded over there.
Does anyone know how late it stays open?

on an earlier link, I see that it shows 10 pm…wonder if that could be later in the school year? have an older child at UT who says one of their gyms is open until midnight and one is until 10 pm. Does A&M also maybe have a second place that might be open a couple of hours later? Of course, that’s not too great for study habits, but maybe on a Friday or Sunday, it would work out all right.

The rec center is a great place to workout. Just like any fitness center there are times of the day when it is crowded and times of the day when it is not. It offers a variety of activities for all interests. Check the website for hours for the various facilities. It is open until 10pm during the summer and midnight during the school year.

The rec really is awesome. I got just about everyday to get my swole on. It can get crowded during the school years especially between 4-7ish. This is when everyone is getting off from class. It’s REALLY packed the first week, because typically people have free time. After the first round of assignments and first test it will thin out. Really the only things you need to wait for are the bench press (there’s 12 I believe) and the incline and decline benches for free weights. There is an indoor lap pool that is available and an outdoor pool as well. The outdoor one is closed during the winter.

It’s the one of my favorite places to go every day. And yea, just like everyone above already mentioned, it has everything. As for how crowded the place is, chaoswithinthed is right that it gets pretty crowded, but even that happens, you can still share machines with others between sets. Overall, our Rec is really amazing.
