There is obviously an upward trend. I also go see this teacher for help regularly. The C is the weakest part of my transcript and I really want there to be some kind of explanation for it on my app and the best way to do that is to get a rec from the teacher who'll probably talk about my hard work and improvement.

I would ask your guidance counselor his opinion, and I might also just ask my math teacher directly. You can say, “Would you be willing to write a recommendation letter for me and do you think you have enough positives to make it a good letter, or would you advise me to ask a different teacher?” I would broach the subject face-to-face, not by e-mail. You can explain to the teacher your reasons for wanting a recommendation from him/her.

I, personally, think it’s a great idea to do this, and I would encourage you to try. The worst thing that can happen is for the teacher to recommend you go to someone else for a letter. What possible harm can come of it?
