Rec Letter from a Professor, or Just Highschool Teachers?

So from what I can understand, highschool students applying to college need to get letters of recommendation from at least two of their teachers. I’m just curious whether or not professors count as teachers and are able to submit recommendations instead of a high school teacher.

Many colleges tell you on their websites who should write the recommendations, how many they want, can you send an optional one, etc. Since it varies, you should check online for each school you are considering. It’s very common that one recommendation must/should come from a recent teacher of a full year academic class (i.e., not Art, usually either English, math, or Science).

I was surprised when looking into this, that many schools only want one letter of recommendation.

Professors would go under “Other recommender”
